How to use Sensory Modulation with Aged Care Residents

This four part pre-recorded webinar series and powerpoint presentation provides an overview of sensory modulation and its application with the elderly, including those who reside in aged care and people who are experiencing cognitive decline.

Sensory modulation strategies are very effective for those working in the aged care field, including occupational therapists, social workers, nurses, psychologists and doctors. Support staff, care assistants and family members also gain great value from an increased awareness of our sensory systems, how they can change as we age and how this can impact behaviour and daily functioning.

Sensory modulation is the use of specific sensory input to change the way a person feels. This can include using sensory input to:

·         calm and sooth

·         feel more safe and secure

·         feel more grounded and centred

·         wind down to help with sleep

·         reduce feelings of stress and anxiety

·         increase feelings of pleasure, contentment and joy

·         recall pleasant, positive memories (reminiscing)

·         connect with others

The Webinar Series is suitable for:

·         Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Nurses, Psychologists and Doctors.

·         Assistance and support staff working in aged care

·         These four videos will provide 5 CPD hours.
